Psalm 83

WOW. Just like that. With just a little under two weeks to go before I return to work, I could not sleep last night thinking about all that has to be done when I return to work. I guess my body is already preparing itself fo the pressure that comes from any job.

I traveled 11 miles yesterday. Julie and I were on the tandem and were about 3.5 miles from our starting point when I heard a familiar pop. I got off the bike and indeed, One of the spokes had broken. So we immediately turned around and headed back to the car. When I took the tire in for repair they discovered 2 more broken spokes. So it looks like there will be no tandem riding until I am back to work. I am going to try to get some mile on my bike today and I will be in Canada for the next week fishing.

The Psalm for today is a difficult one. I understand the feelings the Psalmist is speaking about but it has a faulty theology. But it is an understanding that persists to this day. It is the understanding that my enemies are God's enemies. This Psalm is in direct opposition to the one who called us to pray "FOR" our enemies and their good. In this aage of partisonship and polarization there is evidence from both sides that this Psalmist's understanding is correct. I believe the reality is a God who loves. Who loves all of us with an incredible love that calls us to love each other in spite of and even because of our differences. God created us all different and God saw "... that is was good!"

God,
Thank you for the diversity you created with us. Help us in that diversity to find diverse ways of loving one another and seeking justice for all people. Forgive us when we try to make you exclusively our. Give us understanding to see your limitless love for all of creation. Amen.
